Most teens driving on the road at some point have been told they shouldn’t drive and text.  Unfortunately, many teens don’t heed the warning and decide to engage in texting or get distracted using their cell phone while operating a vehicle. This happens too often and ends in crash or tragic loss. There are studies that continue to be conducted with focus on getting the word out about the dangers of texting while driving.  There are laws in effect in various jurisdictions across the United States, but this doesn’t seem to be enough in getting teens to leave their smartphones alone while driving. Here is additional information parents of teens should know about this problem and what parents can do to ensure their teen is safe behind the wheel.

How a text message tracker software can help?

Over Half Admit to Texting while Driving

There are teens that may tell their parents they are safe on the road, but according to a recent study by AAA this isn’t always the case.  Half of the teens that participated in the study admit they have sent text messages while driving.  This is not a good sign as teens continue to get into car accidents due to texting while driving. This means many parents with a teen driver should worry if they have a cell phone.  They are likely using it as they drive or may have used it at some point when operating a vehicle.

If only parents use a cell phone spy tracker to monitor cell phone activities of their teens while they are on the road.

Roughly 70 Percent Engage in Phone Conversation while Driving

Teens in the study claim they admit they have talked on their cell phone while driving.  Some may or may not use hands free devices when operating their vehicle. Experts say that even with a hands free device there is still a chance of getting into an accident. This is even more of a problem when teens make a promise not to be distracted when driving or claim they won’t use their cell phone unless there is an emergency, when in turn, use their phone anyway.

Experts Say Many Accidents Can Be Prevented

A recent statistic from the study says 6 out of 10 teen crashes are caused by distraction.  The word distraction can include anything from talking to passengers in the car to talking to someone on their cell phone.  The fact that many distractions can be avoided means a number of accidents that occur could have been prevented.  This is the perfect time for parents to review driving safety tips and get insight from their teen on how they understand the significance of texting with driving. Or, parents can resort to the use of a phone spy app. In many cases it can take just a second and an accident can occur.  Anything that is the cause for the driver to take their eyes off the road should not be present, including a cell phone.

What Parents Can Do

Parents can set an example by not using their cell phone while driving. Teens are more likely to do by example if parents can kick the habit.  When you know they will be driving don’t contact them until a later time when you think they have reached their destination. Parents can encourage their teen to assert themselves to ensure driver pays attention to the road if they are a passenger. This means they can offer to use the phone on behalf of the driver if necessary so the driver can concentrate on the road.  Discuss consequences of driving while using their cell phone and review any laws in effect where you live.  If an accident occurs what should your teen do? Talk about times when it is appropriate to use the phone and why they should wait for other calls.
