Amazon Is King: Will Their Reign Ever End?

Over the past few years, Amazon has been branching out into many different industries. Music, television, movies, technology, and even supermarkets, just to name a few. They’re most known for their Prime service and Echo smart speaker. It seems like there’s no stopping them, but will their reign ever end? Right now, it seems unlikely with all of their recent projects listed below.

Amazon & Health Care

On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, Amazon announced that it will joining Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase to combat health care costs.They are working on creating an independent company focused on “simplified, high quality, and transparent” health care for employees. Amazon’s Senior V.P. Galetti will be involved with the project. It has also been rumored that the company may soon get involved with prescription drugs. Amazon Go

Recently, Amazon joined the supermarket industry with the opening of their first supermarket, Amazon Go. The supermarket was opened in Seattle, Washington, where their HQ is also located. Well, what separates this supermarket from all the rest? You don’t need cash with you! All shoppers have to do is use the Amazon Go app and it will keep track of the items you pick up. Some shoppers have noted that the app didn’t track all of their items. It’s honestly the supermarket of the future with their slogan being “just walk out.”

Amazon Key

Many people nowadays shop for items on Amazon. However, a concern among many consumers and businesses is that their packages will get stolen. This fear is especially heightened during the holiday season. To solve this issue, in 2017, they released the Amazon Key.

This new delivery service allows the delivery person to enter your home and put the packages inside. When you purchase this service, you get a Cloud Cam and a smart lock. With the key app and these tools, home or business owners can unlock and lock their door after they receive a notification about a delivery. No need to worry anymore about whether or not your packages are safe.

The Spheres

The Amazon rainforest has arrived in Seattle. On January 29, 2018, the company opened its rainforest project, The Spheres. These spheres are comprised of over 40,000 plants from 30 different countries, and are equipped with micro-climates. The spheres are supposed to be a place where their employees can take a break and relax. The spheres include places to sit and lay down, desks, meeting rooms, and Wi-Fi. The company will use ID badges to monitor their employees and the time they spend in the spheres.

Amazon HQ2

The company recently announced the company is planning on opening a second headquarters. They haven’t decided upon the location yet, but do have a short list of 20 cities including New York City and Boston. The finalist cities are taking this opportunity seriously as it would create 50,000 new jobs. However, many experts are not sure the HQ2 will benefit the host city. Some downfalls may included increased traffic and rent price, and major construction. 

Amazon Echo

Amazon jumped into the tech industry with the Amazon Echo. They have expanded beyond this popular product by coming out with the Echo Show, Spot, and Dot.Many people find the Echo and its virtual assistant, Alexa, useful for everyday tasks like setting alarms, making calendar reminders, or looking up movie times.

Amazon Music

Along with the company’s new Echo devices, they have expanded their Amazon Music service to 28 more countries. Some of these countries include Costa Rica, Greece, and Poland. They have music packages depending on if you have an Echo and if it’s for an individual or family. For those with an Echo, you can simply ask Alexa to play a song you want to listen to.Amazon is looking to continue expanding this service.

Amazon Studios

With Amazon Studios, the company is creating television shows and movies for all ages that are available on Amazon Prime, and sometimes in theaters. Here’s a list of some of their most popular content.
